Additional Course Info | Class Number: 1707 The musical traditions of South, East and Central Asia and Indonesia. Extensive discussion of vocal and instrumental genres, approaches to texts and stories, and systems of learning. We will also pay special attention to the place of music in broader cultural and social contexts as a definer of gender or religious identities, as an object of national or political ownership, and in its interaction with Western classical and popular forms.
