Additional Course Info | Class Number: 2157 In this course we will study the transatlantic slave trade, slavery and their abolitions. Starting with the Code noir – a series of laws regulating slavery in the French colonies, originally passed in 1685 under Louis XIV and reinforced during the ‘Siècle des Lumières’ – we will read our way through the centuries, mixing different media (literary, filmic, museological) by both French and Francophone writers, artists and institutions.; Crosslisted: FREN and COML; Prerequisite(s): At least one 200-level course Div: III; Humanities, A: Meaning, Interpretation (Texts) (Hav: HU, A) All students, in-person and remote (these students via Zoom) |
