Additional Course Info | Class Number: 2173 Virulent and terrifying epidemics are a recurring problem throughout history. This course examines the theories and strategies that people developed to explain the advent and spread of individual plagues and epidemics. The outbreaks of the Black Death, the French Disease (syphilis), typhoid and scarlet fevers, and most recently AIDS provide opportunities to examine how societies understand and categorize diseases.
