Additional Course Info | Class Number: 2544 A seminar on the literary portrait, examining mostly non-fiction by Anglo-American and African American writers from the late 19th century to the present. Topics include the erotics of portraiture, portraiture and the archive, portraiture and personal/historical trauma, collective portraiture, satire/critique, data portraits, modernist/post-modernist portraiture. We’ll frequently refer to visual forms of portraiture, including painting, photography, video art, and cinema. Regular writing assignments will include our own experiments in writing about others.
