Additional Course Info | Class Number: 1844 Mathematics and astronomy are often taught as packaged universal truths, independent of time and context. This course is designed to familiarize students with a growing literature on the history of mathematics and astronomy in regions which now make up the global south. Throughout, we examine how mathematical and astronomical knowledge have always been embedded in political contexts, cultural practices, and forms of labor.
