Additional Course Info | Class Number: 2498 This is a seminar course examining the neuroscience of common drugs of abuse including psychostimulants, opiates/opioids, nicotine, alcohol, and marijuana. The goal of the course is to explore progress in psychopharmacological research, while also discussing the societal ramifications of addiction. We will also discuss these drugs of abuse in the context of the environmental factors that influence vulnerability to them. We will examine concepts such as the importance of age on drug abuse, and how the developing brain may be vulnerable to addiction. The plan is to draw on relevant literature in order to investigate these topics and explore the implications for human addicts. Enrollment Limited: 15 |
