Additional Course Info | Class Number: 1930 A lecture and discussion course on the therapeutic systems (humoral theory, faith healing, natural magic), the medical marketplace, and the social context for understanding health and disease in the medieval period. Topics covered include Greek, Arabic, and Latin medical textual traditions, the rise of hospitals and public health, and the Black Death. Approach: Critical Interpretation (CI), Inquiry into the Past (IP); Haverford: Social Science (SO) ( ) This course is welcoming to science majors and pre-med students. No prior knowledge of medieval history is necessary or assumed. |
