Course content varies.; Current topic description: Taking the term “Conceptualism” as its point of departure, this seminar explores a variety of Latin American approaches to conceptual practice in the 1960s and 1970s. We will consider key artists and movements, including Tucumán Arde, Cildo Meireles, Marta Minujín and Ana Mendieta. Through an engagement with a variety of primary sources and secondary literature, we will seek to understand the ways that artists in Latin America deployed conceptual strategies for aesthetic, political, social and economic critique.
