Additional Course Info | Class Number: 1853 This is a topics course, course content varies.; Current course topic description: This course is designed to survey a broad range of topics in Chinese rural society, which is undergoing the most rapid changes both in physical and culturally forms. Drawing on both historical and sociological approaches, this course will address various social issues such as the modernization process, community construction, and social inequalities. Specific questions include how the rural population is defined, why the people who have been living and working in urban areas for decades would still be categorized as rural population or peasant workers; what legacy the Household Responsibility System has left, and what the villagers have lost while gaining access to tap water, health care, and the nine year compulsory education?
