Additional Course Info | Class Number: 1115 This course introduces key concepts in descriptive and inferential statistics. Topics include summary statistics, graphical displays, correlation, regression, probability, the Law of Large Numbers, expected value, standard error, the Central Limit Theorem, hypothesis testing, sampling procedures, bias, and the use of statistical software.; The student will perform and interpret statistical analysis on data sets. Topics for the semester include: design of experiments, descriptive and inferential statistics, use of computational tools, correlation and regression, probability and distributions, sampling, and significance tests. Approach: Quantitative Methods (QM), Quantitative Readiness Required (QR); Haverford: C: Physical and Natural Processes (C), Natural Science and Quantitative (NA/QU) Enrollment Cap: 40; Postbacc Spaces:3; If the course exceeds the enrollment cap the following criteria will be used for the lottery: Senior; Junior; The flipped classroom teaching style will be implemented. Lectures will be pre-recorded and available online to everybody. Homework will be completed and submitted online. Class time will be an opportunity to practice and further hone what you learn from these lectures by asking questions, working hands-on, and helping others. Cues will be provided by the instructor, but the students should expect to contribute discussion and work topics. Online tools will be implemented to retain this social-academic environment outside of the classroom. Remote-only students can be accommodated. All required online elements will be asynchronous. This will be using two rooms and the instructor will reach out before classes begin to assign room. |
