Additional Course Info | Class Number: 2162 This weekly thesis development workshop examines French and Francophone literary texts and cultural documents from all periods, and the interpretive problems they raise. Close reading, complemented by extensive secondary readings from different schools of interpretation, prepare students to analyze other critical stances and to develop their own.; This seminar typically focuses on in-depth analysis of 2-3 primary works which require students to apply a wide spectrum of theoretical approaches that they acquire from substantial critical reading: e.g., in feminist and gender studies, medical humanities and trauma studies, postcolonial studies, animal studies, to name a few. Growing familiarity with these and other approaches will permit students to begin research on topics that they plan to develop during Semester II, either in a thesis or in a senior essay (the latter in the "cadre" of one of the 300-l. courses. I will be in touch later during the summer to consult seniors about the choice of works to be studied. Haverford: Humanities (HU) ( ) In-person for the first 2-3 weeks to establish esprit de corps; synchronous for students unable to attend the course in person at all and zooming in to class discussion, in which technology will allow them to participate.
