In drill sessions, students develop the ability to speak and understand increasingly well through songs, skits, debates, and a variety of activities. The course meets nine hours per week.; French 001 is the first half of a two-semester beginning sequence designed to help you attain a level of proficiency that should allow you to function comfortably in a French-speaking environment. This course will develop the four skills necessary to learn a language: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. It will increase your in your understanding of French and introduce you along the way to more refined lexical items, more complex grammatical structures, and more challenging cultural material. As in other French courses at Bryn Mawr College, classes will be conducted entirely in French (so, breathe and it will come!). In addition to structured oral practice, work in class will include frequent communicative activities such as role-plays, problem-solving tasks, discussions, and debates, often carried out in pairs or small groups. Via a global simulation technique and the use of Storymaps.js, we create our own virtual world in which we live. All of us become citizens of Paris, have a family and map our lives while learning culture, local geography, shops, museums, works spaces, housing, culture and history. Textbook and online material: Deux Mondes by Terrell Testing: weekly quizzes, oral presentation, blogs and essays as well as online workbook exercises. Approach: Course does not meet an Approach; Haverford: Humanities (HU) ( ) Enrollment Cap: 18; If the course exceeds the enrollment cap the following criteria will be used for the lottery: Placement Exam; Permission of Instructor; I plan to teach 3 days a week in person while recording the class and have a zoom session on Tuesdays and Thursdays to be able to have group work and so that people can see me without a mask for better understanding of the language. The TA session will have some numbers so that people will be able to practice their skills. The individual pronunciation sessions will be remote so that all can practice. |
