Survey of organic chemistry reactions in an aqueous environment, highlighting transformations important for understanding the properties and reactivity of biomolecules in the cell, with emphasis on functional groups, acids and bases, chirality, energetics, reaction mechanisms, enzyme inhibitors and drug design. Recitations: M 1-2 in the Science Library, or T or Th 9-10 a.m. in Kosh E309. Students must choose one recitation.

Prerequisites: Chem 111 or 115 AND Chem 112 or consent. Three-hr. Weekly lab times: M/T/W/Th 1-4 p.m. Students must choose one.
