The Writing Center Tutors are Haverford students
who have been nominated by faculty and selected for their writing and
tutoring abilities. They represent a wide range of majors and are trained
to help you at any stage in the writing process, with writing in any
discipline or course.
Some things that tutors will do: brainstorm
with you about an assignment; help you refine your argument; give advice
on grammar and style; help organize and sharpen your thoughts; give
constructive feedback
Some things that tutors won't do: act
as a proofreading service; rewrite your paper; fix all your typos; guarantee
you higher grades

| Dan
Arnstein ’09 is a psychology major and economics
minor. Despite his questionable athletic talent, Dan is a member
of the fencing team and enjoys basketball in his spare time. Dan
has been looking for a backgammon opponent at Haverford since freshman
year, so he will probably ask you if you know how to play.

Elana
Bloomfield is a senior from
Charlottesville, Virginia, majoring in religion. When she's not
studying, she is most likely searching for that ever-elusive, perfect
coffee shop where she can settle in and read a great book. At the
moment, a few of her favorite books/plays are The Heidi Chronicles
by Wendy Wasserstein, Sula by Toni Morrison, and The
Unbearable Lightness of Being by Milan Kundera. |
Jillian
Bunyan is a senior English major from Colesville,
MD. She loves postcolonialist poetry and novels with intricate lyrical
style. She is delighted to have the chance to help people love writing
as much as she does. Jillian spends her free time being Oxford Blues
president, Lunt Café manager, and finding the time to enjoy
Haverford to the fullest.

| Jacob
Carroll '09,
an art history and English major, was born and raised in Rome, Italy
and will therefore be celebrating the Old Country's victory in the
World Cup for the next four years. Though interested in such historical
figures as St. Simeon the Stylite and his followers, Jacob is far
from adopting the life of a hermit in light of his equal enjoyment
of travel, theater, concerts, and witty banter.
|
Philip
Edmundson is
a senior from Houston, Texas. He graduated from St. Thomas high
school in 2004 and is currently studying philosophy and Latin as
he prepares for medical school. He enjoys reading sci-fi novels
written by William Gibson, Neal Stevenson, Frank Herbert and Gene
Wolfe.
|
Sophia
Khan '08 is an English major and
a sociology minor. She grew up mostly in Islamabad, Pakistan, but
has lived here, there and everywhere since moving to America in
her senior year of high school. She enjoys showers, inventive cookery
and, of course, reading. Her current passion is trashy romance novels,
which she collects for their lurid covers and general brilliance. |

Nick Lotito, a
sophomore from Southern California, plans to major in the social
sciences. He enjoys singing with the Haverford Humtones a capella
group and giving campus tours for the admissions office. Nick loves
learning about foreign cultures and playing sports in causal, low-achievement
settings. |
Julia
McGuire is a junior from Bethesda,
MD. She is a comparative literature major (Spanish and English)
and a concentrator in Latin American Studies. Julia plays field
hockey for Haverford and also serves on the editorial board of the
Haverford Journal. |
Nina
Morton is
a senior from Northern California majoring in chemistry and English.
She likes to see any theatre she can get tickets to, run, play the
flute, and read Austen, Dickens, Sayers, and Harry Potter. |

| Max
Rosen-Long is a junior English major, minoring in
Political Science. He is from Brooklyn, NY and proud of it (of course).
He is a member of Haverford's fencing team and enjoys being overly
idealistic. He has a bad habit of judging books by their covers
(at least the ones with really cool covers).
|
Dan
Sacks is a senior from Belmont,
MA. He's currently an economics major, and formerly a history major.
He hopes to go on to study economics in graduate school. He reads
a wide range of novels but especially enjoys everything in The
New Yorker and the food criticism in The New York Times.
|
Fay
Strongin is a sophomore from Brookline, MA, and
will likely major in Political Science. She likes sparkly things,
including dance parties, Montreal, thrift store bling, and Political
Science. Although Fay is passionate about literature, she doesn't
typically re-read books; two notable exceptions are The Maggie
B. and Bread and Jam for Frances. |

|
| Daniel
Studenmund is a senior math
major who hails from Evanston, IL. His hobbies at school include
messing around with the Honor Code and poking around places that
he probably shouldn't. He also loves games, puzzles, juggling, whistling,
and words that start with "meta."
|
Sarah
Walker is
a senior from Wilton, Connecticut majoring in English and planning
to get certified to teach. She is also on the field hockey and track
teams, and plays oboe in the orchestra. She enjoys reading almost
anything, but her most recent favorite is 1984.
|
Jane
Weber is a senior at Haverford majoring
in anthropology. She is from Chicago and runs Cross Country and
Track for the college. She loves meeting new people and hopes that
all of you will stop by the Writing Center very soon. |

| Aaron
Wile is
a senior history major from Wilbraham, MA. His favorite book is
As I Lay Dying by William Faulkner, but he'll read almost
anything he can get his hands on. Aaron finds writing a difficult
but rewarding process, so he sympathizes with the pain that comes
with trying to write a paper. He also enjoys tennis. |

The

come to your dorm with writing assistance at any hour of day or
night. If only! |
