I want to stay in the Room with a View, be on the street where you live, roam the English countryside like a Jane Austen character, and do other things from amazing novels about English people and musicals in the 18th through 20th centuries.
Salutations,
I'm Gabi. I'm a member of the class of 2013, and I LOVE Haverford. It is by far one of the greatest places on Earth.
I'm from Silver Spring, Maryland, which is right outside of Washington, D.C.
I like to think that my attending Haverford was predestined. I visited Haverford for the first time when I was 3 months old, and it was during that visit that my mom said that I would go to Haverford. Lo and behold, my head went over my heels when I visited Haverford during my senior year. I applied early decision and the rest is all history. So, here's a little bit about my life at Haverford.
I am an English major, Gender and Sexuality Studies concentrator. In addition to english classes, I have taken courses in religion, Greek, Swahili, anthropology, music, astronomy (for humanities majors), chemistry (for humanities majors), statistics, philosophy, art history, and sociology. Gender and Sexuality Studies is an interdisciplinary department so I have taken religion, anthropology, and english classes that fulfill requirements for the concentration.
At Haverford, I am in the a cappella group The Outskirts. I am co-president with Angelique Bradford. We are a bunch of amazingly talented lovely ladies who make up a fraction of the 8% of students involved in a cappella on campus. Woohoo, for the college with the most a cappella groups per capita! I work at Magill Library, and am currently trying to have the most checked out library books of anyone in the class of 2013. I have also served as an Honor Council representative for the class of 2013 in the Spring 2011 semester and served on Honor Council in the Fall 2011 semester as Honor Council Co-Secretary with Aubree Penney. For the 2012-2013 school year, I participated in a Hurford Center for the Arts and Humanities funded reading group on divas. The center also provided me with funding for the Summer of 2012, so I could work as an intern in the Publishing Department at the Library of Congress. I am also an admissions tour guide.
As I am about to enter my last year at Haverford, it is standard for seniors to write a thesis. I plan on writing about Toni Morrison.
Regards,
Gabi
