Hey y'all!
I'm Aubree, a sophomore from Memphis, TN. I'm a Religion and English double major with a minor in Classical Culture and Society! Here at the 'Ford, I am a Co-Manager of the Cantor Fitzgerald Gallery, so I spend a lot of time involved in the campus art scene and obsessing about giant ostrich statues, plus I'm one of the bloggers for the People's Biennial blog. I'm also the resident Southern Belle of Haverford, because we get very few Southern folk here unfortunately. I love making sweet tea for all my friends, and yes, I do actually say "y'all" all the time.
I love being involved on campus. This year, I'm serving as Customs Committee Co-Head with Joshua Mussa '13. We lead a committee comprised of 5 other 'Fords to solicit applciations, interview candidates, select and train the Customs People for the Class of 2015. We both feel really honored to get to work with the program on this level, and we are so excited to play a part in welcoming the Class of 2015.
I was a Customs Person for the fabulous Gummere 3/3 2009-2010, meaning I got to live with and hangout with 14 super cool freshmen all year long, along with my best friend and co-CP, Katie Szymanowski. This upcoming year I will be an Honor Code Orienteer with Kylie O'Neill-Mullin, who was one of my freshmen last year! We get to teach the freshmen of Gummere 1/2 all about the Code-it's going to be epic. Customs is definitely one of my favorite things ever. How could you not love a program that lets you meet cool people, try new things, have thought provoking discussions, and have a family-away-from-family your first year?
Having dinner with my freshmen and just hanging out with them are the highlights of my day. Whether we're doing homework together, playing game cube, stargazing, or dancing in our common room to 90's hits, we always have fun!
Last year I served on two committees, Haverfest Committee and the Humanities Center Advisory Board, and I'm serving on HCAB again this year. I am also now on the Committee for College Honors! Heck yeah! Committees are one of my fave things about the 'Ford-Haverford is one of the only schools that has students serving on committees that help decide things financially, socially, and logistically. Anyone can apply-it's such a fantastic opportunity to get involved, meet administrators, and help Haverford become the best it can be! (Don't get me wrong, Haverford is already AWESOME, but still, we try to make it even better.)
And because I'm a dork, I love going to things like lunches with board members when Students Council gives us the opportunity or going to Alum events at the art gallery. I love meeting with people who make Haverford possible; I am so grateful to be a part of this community.
Also, Haverford is the best place in the whole wide world. I have met so many incredible people and had so many amazing experiences. And I'm only a sophomore! Here's to two fantastic years still to come!
P.S. Got questions about cool stuff on campus? Feel free to email me! (apenney@haverford.edu).
