Safety Information: Safety Alerts
An informed campus is a safe campus. We will regularly post any information pertinent to campus safety and security to this page.
10/26/07 We have had several recent incidents involving students on the roof
of the FieldHouse. It is very hazardous - it has been resurfaced and is
extremely slick. Last night, eight students were found on the roof,
identified, and referred to the Dean's Office.
Our goal is to prevent someone from being seriously injured or killed. The new
surface is truly dangerous. Efforts have been made to make
the area inaccessible, but for those who are still attempting to get
to the roof, we can't emphasize strongly enough that they are
literally taking their lives in their hands.
Please look out for each other and discourage everyone from
accessing he roof.
10/08/07 On Saturday, October 6th at approximately 11:15pm, a Haverford student had her purse stolen – forcibly pulled from her shoulder - while walking on Ardmore Ave. one block south of Lancaster Ave.
There were no weapons involved and there were no injuries. Lower Merion police subsequently arrested two males for the robbery and the cash taken in the theft was recovered.
THE STUDENT WAS WALKING WITH A FRIEND – A GOOD PRACTICE
BE ALERT AND PLEASE NOTIFY SECURITY IMMEDIATELY IF YOU OBSERVE SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY.
THANK YOU
Tom King
Director - Safety and Security
10/05/07 - Due to the Inauguration activities on Saturday, October 6th, the College is closed to those with no college affiliation (for example, joggers, dog walkers, etc). Parents, friends and those with business on campus will be permitted to enter.
10/04/07 - Taxicab Robberies On September 2, 22, and 29, between the hours of 2:00 a.m. and 3:00 a.m., there were four armed robberies in Philadelphia involving taxis. In each case, a cab stopped to pick up passengers and there was a second person in the taxi accompanying the driver. The second person produced a handgun and demanded money, credit cards, cell phones, and other valuables. The victims were then driven to various ATM locations and forced to withdraw money. Three of the incidents occurred in center city and one at 40th and Walnut Streets. In all cases the victims were unharmed and dropped off at various locations throughout Philadelphia. Two of the victims were Penn affiliated students. The Philadelphia Parking Authority, which regulates rules and policies of all taxis in the city, does not allow anyone to accompany the taxi driver in the front section of the cab.
