Thank you, Mr. Chukurov, for the excellent message. People ask me about militant religious nationalism. One can define it abstractly: the absolute association of religion and nation, the belief that the religion/nation/ethnicity in question has been infinitely wronged and deserves an infinite redress, and itself can do no wrong, the belief that anyone who challenges the policy or the action of the nation/religion's leaders is a traitor or not a "true" member of such a nation.
But your message is a much more graphic and memorable performance of militant religious nationalism. The constant personal attacks on anyone who disagrees with the regime as not belonging to the nation/ethnicity/religion at stake, the never ending personal attacks, the demands that one prove one's ethnoreligious credentials.
In this country, the upper case scream "YOU ARE NO SERB" is simply a verbal attack. In the Republika Sprska it is a death warrant and those who are "NO SERBS" are sent to places like Omarska or Kula prison.
Just to satisfy one tiny portion of your infinite examination, my family is Serbian Orthodox, baptised in the Serbian Orthodox Church. But of course no amount of answers can ever satisfy the demands of militant religious nationalism, because by the very nature of being a dissident against the regime, one is by definition "NO SERB."
As for your declaration of your Serbian credentials, Mr. Chukurov, I celebrate your pure and complete Serbdom with a quote from Slobodan Blagojevic's poem on pure Croatness and pure Serbness (from the volume Balkan Blues). Here is his section on pure Serbness:
"I am Serbo Serbich Serbovich from Serbia.
And I am Serbius Serboyevich from Serbian Serbs.
I am Serbissismus Serbissimich Serboserbissimich
from the Serbest Serbdom.
And I, Serbentius Serboserbich Serbinsky from Serbiancy . . .
