The reference to the Banja Luka region was a reference to the area of Northern Bosnia of which Banja Luka is the economic center. You cite the figures for the Banja Luka municipality. Kris Janowski was referring to the much wider area, not to the municipality. This wider area includes a series of large towns, all of which were savagely purged of non-Serb population.
The real issue is this: the systematic religious persecution against those who were not Serb Orthodox, a persecution that was carried out for years, in full view of witnesses from the UNHCR, and has been overwhelmingly documented. In my earlier posting, "God help them, God help us all" I cited some of that documentation.
Readers might also wish to tune into the WEB site for the trial of Dusan Tadic, one of the many small figures accused of torture, rape, and mass-murder at the Omarska death camp near Banja Luka. The trial is taking place at this moment at the International Tribunal in The Hague, with testimony from survivors of the bestiality at Omarska.
Mr. Tadic's defense admits that the unspeakable atrocities took place, but claims that Tadic is a victim of mistaken identity, and the perpetrators were other officials associated with the Banja Luka and Prijedor security apparatus.
