Medenine

Medenine is the major town in southeastern Tunisia, south of the Oasis town of Gabes and the Island of Jerba, on the main route to Libya.

I taught in Medenine at the Lycee during the school year 1972-73. Medinine combines some old sections of town, such as the ancient Ksar (below), with new buildings from the period of French colonial rule and post-colonial efforts to settle the bedouin in the area in fixed abodes.
