Dear SAGE subscribers - Pamela Crocker-Davis of Lacey, Washington, who worked in FOR's Bosnian Student Project and contributed to the work of the Peacenet Balkans Desk during the war in Bosnia, passed away on Aug 21 after a long and valiant struggle against cancer. Pam was a tireless worker in behalf of refugees from the Balkans, and a champion of a multiethnic Bosnia. Her input was instrumental in bringing material aid to a Sarajevo neighborhood during the siege, and her presence was critical to the success of a number of other aid projects. Many refugee students owe their lives and progress to Pam's steadfast encouragement. Those of us who knew Pam will miss her, and many others, who did not know her, will profit by her contributions to the cause of peace.

Here follows the news of Pam's death, sent by Pete Holm, a colleague in the BSP. - ed Received: Sat, 23 Aug 1997 22:43:01 -0700 (PDT) From: Paul Holm Subject: Pamela Crocker-Davis

Ed,

It is my sad duty to let you know that Pam Crocker-Davis died this morning, Saturday, Aug. 21, at about 1 am. As you know, she had been undergoing cancer treatment for some time. She recently was discharged from the hospital to her home, where the necessary support care was arranged. Her parents came up from New Mexico, and although her father returned there her mother remained here. Pam's doctors expected her to live for at least several more months, but a heart attack or something similar took her quickly and without warning. [...] A memorial service will be held at the Unity Church in Olympia on Wednesday, August 27 at 2 pm. The family suggests that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Olympia FOR Bosnian Student Project, PO Box 326, Olympia, WA 98507. Please feel free to pass on this sad news to those you think would like to know. I personally do not have a list of all the people Pam had e-mail relationships with. Yours, Pete (Paul T. Holm)

The following is another tribute, from Kenan Zahirovic in Sarajevo, with whom Pam was in touch by email during the siege, and was in that way an enormous moral support to Kenan and his family.

Zdravo Ed,

Ssta da ccovjek kazze u tako tuzznom trenutku ...? We all knew about cancer, but it still comes as surprise. No matter how serious it was, but one always has a hope.

I still have few rechargeable batteries and one small solar charger which I got from Pam. I can reload these batteries for 1000 times, so that means I'll remember Pam every time I take batteries. But not only that: I really can't forget anyone who helped me or just be with me in the hard times. Pam was real friend. - Kenan [Zahirovic]
