Terrence L. Johnson, a Ph.D. candidate at Brown University, is a 2005-2006 recipient of the Woodrow Wilson Charlotte Newcombe Dissertation Fellowship. His areas of teaching include religious ethics, moral philosophy and African American Religious Thought. Terrence’s dissertation, “Tragic Soul-Life: W.E.B. Du Bois and the Redemption of American Democracy,” examines the role of our deep commitments, such as religion and race, in public debates on justice.
