Registration / Verification Instructions
Registration will open August 31st, 2008
Haverford College
Registration Procedures
STUDENTS: PLEASE READ VERY CAREFULLY THE FOLLOWING:
Date for Fall, 2008 Preregistration: WEB opens for preregistration on Friday,
April 4th, and closes on Friday, April 18th, 2008;
Any registration submitted to a student’s Advisor via the web AFTER Friday,
April 18th, 2008, will be considered LATE, the consequences of which are a
$25.00 LATE REGISTRATION FEE and ineligibility for all class lotteries. The
actual paper Course Guide, the one you receive each year, will be published in
paper form in late August, 2008, and distributed to all students when they
return to Haverford in the Fall. So how do you register if you don’t have a
Guide? Proceed as follows:
(a) Go to the Registrar’s web page and click on “BICOLLEGE COURSE GUIDE
2008-2009”;
(b) When you open this link, you will find links for all Haverford & Bryn
Mawr Departments;
(c) Scroll through those Departments in which you have an interest and on the
Web registration worksheet (also a link on this page) list those courses for
which you would like to pre-register;
(d) When you have decided on your Fall schedule, please CONTACT YOUR ADVISOR,
EITHER IN PERSON OR EMAIL, AND DISCUSS WITH HIM/HER YOUR INTENDED COURSES;
(e) When your Advisor approves, go to the web and go to “Online
Course Registration/Verification” and enter your registration as in the
past. Both Swarthmore and Penn offerings can be found on their respective
websites (Swarthmore on the Tri-College Course Guide) and can be added to your
registration as in the past by printing the Swarthmore/Penn registration form,
filling it out, and bringing it to the Registrar’s Office for inclusion on your
registration.
(f) Finally: Sophomores, Class of 2010: In addition to all of the above, before
you can submit your online registration to your advisor, the system will ask
you to indicate your major and your new advisor, to whom your registration will
automatically be sent. Be sure, then, that you have completed the process of
declaring a major before you attempt to register. The system, in fact, will not
permit you to register without declaring a major and a NEW Advisor. At this
point, you will no longer be advised by your original Haverford Advisor; your
new Major Advisor will both receive and approve all your registrations from
this point on. All of this you must accomplish by the registration deadline:
Friday, April 18th, at 5:00 p.m.
(g) One really final caution, and this is important: Do not submit your
registration on line until you are positively sure that the courses you want
are really the courses you want. Once you click on “submit”, under no
circumstances can you make changes in your program until late August, 2008, the
beginning of the Fall drop/add period at Haverford.
(h) Study Abroad Students - if you are currently studying abroad and are still
on Haverford email, and if you have web access at your foreign location, you
are expected to register just as you would if you were on the Haverford campus.
If, however, you do not have web access in your foreign location but you still
have access to email, please email me your intended courses and I will register
for you. Email the Registrar at lwatkins@haverford.edu
REGISTRATION FOR PENN AND SWARTHMORE COURSES
Students:
I will get many questions regarding how to register for Penn and Swat courses,
so here goes:
TO REGISTER FOR A SWARTHMORE COURSE:
1. When Swarthmore courses are available, they will appear on line on the
Tri-Co Course Guide. I expect this to happen within the next week. If you want
to register for a Swarthmore course (or one at Penn), you cannot do so on line
but must fill out a form which you can print using the following url:
http://www.haverford.edu/registrar/forms/Swarthmore_UPenn.pdf
2. Complete the form with the appropriate course(s) and bring it to the
Registrar’s Office to have the course(s) included with your registration;
3. The final step in a Swarthmore registration is to go to the Swarthmore
Registrar’s Office to complete your registration for Swarthmore courses there.
If you omit step 3, you will not be registered for any course at Swarthmore.
You may do this beginning on Monday, April 28th to the end of the semester.
TO REGISTER FOR A PENN COURSE:
1. The University does not allow pre-registration of Haverford and Bryn Mawr
students, so in essence, you must register for Penn courses when you return to
Haverford in late August. You can, however, do this:
(a) Print the form as indicated in the Swarthmore instructions above, have it
approved in writing by your Advisor and the Haverford Registrar, and deposit it
in the Haverford Registrar’s Office;
(b) My office will hold the form until the beginning of August at which time we
will fax it to the Penn Registrar;
(c) Read and follow the Penn registration instructions, which can be found as
follows:
http://www.sas.upenn.edu/cgs/reciprocal/
(d) Under no circumstances are you to contact the Penn Professor for permission
to enter his/her course. This will only complicate matters and in all
probability, you will not be admitted to the course.
I think I have included here all the information you need to register for Fall,
2008. If, however, you still are unclear as to what to do, or if you need
assistance with any of this, I am available in my office, Chase 103, all day,
every day, and no appointment is necessary. Simply come in and ask to see me,
or see Donna Ferguson, the Assistant Registrar, who is more than happy to
assist you. Remember, finally, if you plan to return to Haverford in the fall,
you must register by April 18th; if you fail to do this for any reason, you
will not be included in any limited-enrollment course lottery and the next time
you can register for fall courses is upon your return to Haverford in late
August. If you plan to study away in the USA or Abroad next semester/year,
please do not register. Conversely, if you are currently studying abroad or
anywhere away from Haverford, planning to return to Haverford in the fall, you
must register. That’s it for now.
Lee Watkins, Registrar
