Macromolecular Methods
Experimental and bioinformatics methods used to study nucleic acids and proteins will be discussed using the components of the HIV virus as examples. Molecular biological methods will include cloning, sequencing, protein expression and purification and characterization. Spectroscopic and structure-determining methods may include fluorescence, circular dichromism, NMR, mass spectroscopy, atomic force microscopy and crystallography. Assignments will include problem sets, article critiques, and oral presentations. Pre-requisite: Any course in Biochemistry and Physical Chemistry or permission of the instructor.
