1055B240 011.0Literary Translation Workshop
New Course: All creative writing involves the “translation” of experience into literary text. Open to creative writing students and students of literature, the syllabus includes theoretical readings, but the emphasis is practical and analytical, considering parallel translations from numerous languages to inform student translations from foreign languages into English. Includes visits by working literary translators. The Italian verbs for “to translate” and “to betray” are neighbors; throughout, the course concerns the impossibility and importance of literary translation. Enrollment limited to 15 students chosen at first class meeting on basis of questionnaire. Cross listed with COML B240. For complete information see the English Department or Creative Writing Program website.
