Quaker Job & Internship Opportunities

Many Quaker organizations offer rewarding internships and jobs open to recent college graduates. We encourage upperclassmen to explore the opportunities listed below, though these are by no means comprehensive. Quaker United Nations Office: QUNO has two offices, one in New York and one in Geneva, and offers an opportunity for several young adults each year to work at the UN and get hands on experience crafting advocacy positions, navigating the international policy arena, and facilitating outreach and education for the rest of the Quaker world about policy matters. The QUNO experiences in NY and Geneva are quite different. The application is generally due in early February. Details »

QuEST: The Quaker Experiential Service and Training program is coordinated by the University Friends Meeting in Seattle, Washington. QuEST brings together six interns to live together in community while performing a year of voluntary service in a wide variety of social service agencies in the Seattle area. Placements are made through a matching process between intern skills and interests and agency needs. They are seeking interns who are committed to community life and engagement, cooperative living, service, and social justice. QuEST supports people in service from a wide range of backgrounds, international volunteers, and people of any (or no) spiritual affiliation. Most interns will qualify for AmeriCorps education awards, and in addition to excellent housing will receive health insurance, a communal food allowance, bus pass, modest stipend, and mentorship and support during their year of service. One-year minimum commitment required, starting just before Labor Day and ending the following August. Applications are generally due in early March. Details »

FCNL

The Friends Committee on National Legislation: FCNL, the largest team of peace lobbyists in Washington, DC, uses multi-issue advocacy to connect historic Quaker testimonies on peace, equality, simplicity, and truth with peace and social justice issues which the United States government is or should be addressing. FCNL offers around 8 internships each year, with a diversity of substantive and legislative areas of focus. These internships are well-known, well-regarded and a great opportunity. Quaker Voluntary Service: QVS is a new organization, similar to QuEST or Haverford House, that selects six interns to live together communally and work on various social justice issues through internship placements with local non-profits. They established their first service house in Atlanta, Georgia in 2012. Applications are due at the beginning of April. Details »

William Penn House: The William Penn House (WPH) is a Quaker seminar and hospitality center five blocks from the halls of Congress in Washington, DC. Its mission is to provide a setting for Friends and others concerned with the development of spiritual values and a bridge between those values and pressing domestic and international concerns. WPH is best known for its seminar programs for groups from schools, colleges and universities, monthly meetings, and other organizations. The House welcomes Friends from each of the spiritual traditions of Friends and is seeking interns with Quaker backgrounds. In the recent past, interns have come from Conservative Friends, FUM, FGC and Evangelical Friends. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. Details »

Casa de los Amigos:The Casa de los Amigos, A.C. is a Center for Peace and International Understanding founded by the Quaker community of Mexico City in 1956. We are a non-profit peace organization, a community center, the meetinghouse for Mexico City Friends (Quakers), a social justice-oriented guest house, and a home. The practice of sincere hospitality, rooted in recognizing the human dignity of each person, is at the core of the Casa de los Amigos. The Casa has a relationship with the CPGC.
