4/27-28/01 Centennial Conference Championships

LANCASTER -- Junior fifth-seed Peter Law and senior captain Brian Simms of Haverford both suffered tough three-set losses in the opening round of the singles competition Friday.

Fords freshman Harrison Lee defeated Drew Gross of Gettysburg, 6-4, 6-0, in the first round of singles before falling to fifth-seeded Louis Blanchette of Washington (Md.) in the Round of 16, 6-3, 4-6, 7-5. The teams of Lee/soph partner Kevin Meyers and junior George Bulman/frosh Aaron Scherb lost in the second round of the doubles draw.

4/24/01 Swarthmore 7, Haverford 0

HAVERFORD -- Junior #4 George Bulman and freshman #6 Aaron Scherb both won their first sets against Garnet opponents, but the host Fords (11-6 NCAA) were swept by Swarthmore (8-5) in a non-Centennial match Tuesday.

4/21/01 Princeton JV 5, Haverford 2

HAVERFORD -- Senior Brian Simms won, 4-6, 6-1, 6-2, at second singles and sophomore Kevin Meyers won, 7-6 (3), 6-4, at sixth singles for the Fords in their non-NCAA match with the Tiger cubs Saturday.

Junior George Bulman and freshman Aaron Scherb won 8-1 at third doubles, but Princeton victories at first and second positions captured the doubles point.

4/19/01 The College of New Jersey 6, Haverford 1

HAVERFORD -- Freshman Aaron Scherb recorded a 7-5, 6-0, win over Steve Gachko at fifth singles, but Haverford dropped to 11-5 with its non-conference loss to TCNJ Thursday.

Scherb teamed with junior George Bulman for an 8-5 win at third doubles, but the Lions used a 9-8 (5) win at #2 to secure the best-of-three doubles point.

4/17/01 Haverford 4.5, University of the Sciences 1.5

HAVERFORD -- In a match completed indoors at Alumni Field House, junior George Bulman, freshmen Harrison Lee and Aaron Scherb and sophomore Kevin Meyers recorded straight-set victories at numbers three through six to clinch Tuesday's singles-only match for Haverford (11-4).

Junior #1 Peter Law fell to USP's Fabian Marco, 6-3, 6-4, while senior captain Brian Simms split sets, 6-4, 5-7, versus Felipe Silva before play was suspended.

4/14/01 Haverford 6, Dickinson 1

HAVERFORD -- Juniors Peter Law and George Bulman rebounded from 6-4 first-set losses to win in three sets at first- and third-singles Saturday.

Senior Brian Simms and frosh Harrison Lee and Aaron Scherb won easily at singles positions 2-4-5 for the Fords (10-4, 5-3 Centennial).

4/13/01 Haverford 6, Philadelphia University 1

HAVERFORD -- Senior Brian Simms, junior George Bulman, freshmen Harrison Lee and sophomore Kevin Meyers were straight-set winners at second through sixth-singles against the Division II Rams Friday.

Junior Peter Law/Simms and Bulman/Scherb each won the first of two back-to-back doubles victories on the weekend.

4/11/01 Franklin & Marshall 4, Haverford 3

LANCASTER -- In a Centennial Conference match moved indoors due to yesterday's rain, the host Diplomats (4-6, 4-1) outlasted the Fords (8-4, 4-3) by winning four of six singles matches.

Haverford captured the best-of-three doubles point with pro-set wins at #2 by junior Peter Law/senior Brian Simms and #3 by junior George Bulman/freshman Aaron Scherb.

Scherb and classmate Harrison Lee were the Fords' only singles winners, taking points at numbers 5 and 6 in straight sets. Sophomore Kevin Meyers also claimed a straight-set exhibition victory at #7 singles.

4/9/01 Johns Hopkins 5.5, Haverford 1.5

BALTIMORE -- Junior Peter Law and senior Brian Simms won, 9-7, at second doubles and junior George Bulman and freshman Aaron Scherb won, 8-6, at third doubles to capture the best-of-three doubles point in Haverford's Centennial Conference match Monday at Johns Hopkins (8-5, 5-0).

Peter Law earned a half-point with his 3-6, 7-6 (5) effort against Hopkins' #1 Jamie Saxe before darkness halted play. Simms and Scherb both won their opening sets before suffering tough, three-set defeats at second- and sixth-singles, respectively, for Haverford (8-3, 4-2).

4/7/01 Haverford 5.5, Gettysburg 1.5

HAVERFORD -- Junior Peter Law and senior Brian Simms won easily at first and second singles, respectively, to highlight Haverford's Centennial Conference victory over Gettysburg (4-6, 1-3) Saturday.

Junior George Bulman and freshmen Harrison Lee and Aaron Scherb were also straight-set winners for the Fords (8-2, 4-1) at fourth through sixth singles, respectively. The doubles point was divided as the teams split first- and third-position matches and second doubles was called off.

4/5/01 Washington (Md.) 7, Haverford 0

HAVERFORD -- Haverford (6-2, 3-1) nearly won the best-of-three doubles point with an 8-6, pro-set victory at second doubles by senior Brian Simms and junior Peter Law and a tough 9-7 loss at third doubles for junior George Bulman and freshman Aaron Scherb.

The Shoremen (11-0, 4-0) swept all six singles matches in straight sets to remain unbeaten and unscored upon in Centennial play.

3/31/01 Haverford 6, Western Maryland 1

HAVERFORD -- Junior #1 Peter Law and freshman #4 Harrison Lee whitewashed their respective Green Terror opponents, 6-0, 6-0, to extend Haverford (7-1, 3-0) to its seventh straight win Saturday.

Frosh #5 Aaron Scherb and soph #6 Kevin Meyers lost only one game each for the Fords, who also swept the men's pro-set doubles point with wins of 8-2, 8-2 and 8-0.

3/27/01 Haverford 6.5, Muhlenberg 0.5

HAVERFORD -- Senior Brian Simms, junior Andrew Law and George Bulman and freshmen Harrison Lee and Aaron Scherb were straight-set winners at second through sixth singles, respectively, as Haverford improved to 6-1 overall and 2-0 Centennial Tuesday.

Junior Peter Law battled the Mules' Robby Richman to a 6-2, 2-6, 3-3 stalemate before play was halted by darkness. Law/Simms and Bulman Scherb recorded identical 8-2 pro-set wins at second and third positions to claim the best-of-three doubles point.

3/22/01 Haverford 7, Ursinus 0

HAVERFORD -- Junior Peter Law, senior Brian Simms, juniors Andrew Law and George Bulman and freshmen Harrison Lee and Aaron Scherb yielded just nine games in 12 singles sets and four games in three doubles pro sets for host Haverford (4-1, 1-0 Centennial) Thursday.

3/15/01 Haverford 6, Queens (N.Y.) 3
Haverford 6, Vassar 1

HAINES CITY, Fla. -- Junior Peter Law and freshman Harrison Lee fought back for three-set victories at first and fifth singles, respectively, as Haverford defeated Division II Queens.

Lee and sophomore Kevin Meyers won, 8-7 (7-4), to lead a sweep of doubles that included an 8-5 win by Law/Brian Simms and an 8-4 win by Aaron Scherb/George Bulman. Freshman Scherb also won in straight sets at sixth singles.

The Fords (3-1) swept a best-of-three doubles point against Vassar before Law earned his third straight victory, 6-0, 6-2. Meyers won 2-6, 7-6 (2), 6-2, and frosh Arie Beitman won 7-5, 6-3, to complete the rout of the Brewers.

3/14/01 Haverford 6, Wesleyan (Conn.) 1

HAINES CITY, Fla. -- Senior Brian Simms won in three sets at third singles and combined with junior Peter Law for an 8-1 win at second doubles as Haverford (1-1) captured its spring break-opener Wednesday.

Junior #2 Andrew Law was the Fords' only victim, falling, 7-5, 6-4. Junior George Bulman and sophomore Kevin Meyers won, 8-6, at third doubles to clinch the best-of-three doubles point.

Haverford, which opened the spring season with a 9-0 loss at Penn on March 7, was rained out yesterday versus Lake Forest (Ill.).

9/30-10/1/00 ITA Northeast Region Tournament at Vassar

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Junior fifth-seed Peter Law advanced to the Round of 16 and senior Brian Simms to the second round of the main singles draw last weekend's ITA at Vassar.

Law defeated Greg Dehaas of Oneonta State, 8-0, and J.P. Elhage of Manhattanville, 6-1, 6-2, while Simms downed Josh White of Rochester then (?) Goff of Rensselear, 8-1, after falling to eventual quarterfinalist Richard Salem of NYU.

Fords frosh Harrison Lee and Aaron Scherb defeated Oneonta State's Ruger/Debnas, 8-5, before falling to Manhattanville's Brown/Tietke, 8-6, in the doubles Round of 16.

HAVERFORD -- Freshmen Aaron Scherb (#4/5) and Harrison Lee (5/6) each won their first four intercollegiate singles matches last weekend in a round robin tournament at Haverford.

Juniors Peter Law and Ryan Bowman and sophomore Trey Spencer picked up singles wins versus USP at numbers 1, 3 and 6, while junior Andrew Law, senior Brian Simms and frosh Arie Beitman won at number 2, 3 and 6 against Philadelphia (formerly Textile).

Bowman/Lee (#2) and Kevin Meyers/Simms (#3) won by identical 8-4 counts to capture the doubles points against Division I Villanova.

The same tandems earned another doubles point with 8-6 victories Wednesday versus Princeton JV. Peter Law won, 6-4, 5-6 (5), 1-0 (3), over the Tigers' Patrick Brick for the Fords' lone singles point.
