FIELD 3/10/01 NCAA Division III Championships OSHKOSH, Wis. -- Haverford College junior J.B. Haglund (3:53.99) earned his second All-America recognition in as many days by finishing sixth in the 1,500-meter run Saturday afternoon at Wisconsin-Oshkosh. Fords sophomore Greg Bielecki finished three places behind Haglund in his first national appearance. Haglund had anchored classmates Chris Johnstone, Chris Ward and Peter Rook Friday night as the Fords finished fourth with a time of 10:06.03 in the Distance Medley (1200-400-800-1600m) Relay. 3/9/01 NCAA Division III Championships OSHKOSH, Wis. -- Juniors Chris Johnstone, Chris Ward, Peter Rook and J.B. Haglund (10:06.03) finished fourth Friday night as Haverford earned All-America recognition in the Distance Medley Relay for the second straight year at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships. Johnstone, Ward and Haglund teamed with then-sophomore classmate Matt Duques last March to place fifth last year. Luther College of Iowa (10:04.88) won this year's 1200-400-800-1600-meter event by .21 seconds over host Wisconsin-Oshkosh and third-place M.I.T., both timed in 10:05.09. Anchor leg Haglund (3:57.13) had earlier qualified for Saturday's 1,500-meter final in the first heat of trials, two places ahead of sophomore teammate and Greg Bielecki (3:57.52). Fords junior Jim Steinemann (4:09.49) did not advance to the 1,500 final. 3/2/01 Last Chance Meet HAVERFORD -- The year's final meet in Alumni Field House allowed two more Haverford men's track performers to qualify provisionally for NCAA Division III nationals next weekend at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. Jim Steinemann '02 and Greg Bielecki '03 ran 3:56.5 and 3.57.0, respectively, in the 1500 meters, and will now wait for the national Division III list of performers to see whether they will rank high enough in the field to be allowed to join Haverford's crack Distance Medley relay quartet out in Wisconsin. 2/24/01 Centennial Conference Championships -- FINAL Haverford 154, Dickinson 118, Muhlenberg 56, Johns Hopkins 44, Western Maryland 43, Franklin & Marshall 39, Gettysburg 26, Swarthmore 25, Ursinus 22. HAVERFORD -- Juniors Peter Rook (1:56.63), Chris Ward (1:56.78), Doug Bennett (1:57.31) and J.B. Haglund (1:57.62) and sophomore Greg Bielecki (1:57.79) swept the first five places of the 800-meter run to help host Haverford win its seventh Centennial indoor championship since 1994. Sophomore Matt Rivenburgh (6.72) edged juniors Chris Salamone (6.75) of Dickinson and Eric Koehrsen of Haverford (6.76) to become the Fords' first Centennial 55-meter dash gold medalist. Rivenburgh (23.48) later won bronze in the 200. Swarthmore senior Marc Jeuland (15:16.04) ran away from the 5,000 field, with Haverford junior Willie Stroever (15:21.68) and senior Jason Dwyer (15:40.85) taking third and sixth, respectively. Juniors Joe McCool, Jim Steinemann, Tyson Oberndorfer and Chris Johnstone ran 8:03.19 -- two seconds off Haverford's CC-record time in 1997 -- when the Fords won the 4x800-meter relay for the eighth straight year. Johnstone closed the meet by anchoring Ward, Steinemann and Rook in the Fords' winning 4x400-meter relay (3:29.18). 2/23/01 Centennial Conference Championships -- FIRST NIGHT Haverford 75, Dickinson 34, Franklin & Marshall 23, Muhlenberg 20, Gettysburg 12, Johns Hopkins 11, Swarthmore 8, Western Maryland 3 HAVERFORD -- Haverford captain J.B. Haglund (4:00.91) brought home sophomore Greg Bielecki and junior classmates Peter Rook, Jim Steinemann, Doug Bennett and Ronnie Bossert as the Fords swept the top six places of the championship-opening 1,500. Haglund (8:40.71) outpaced Swarthmore senior Marc Jeuland (8:45.41) in a Centennial-record 3,000-meter time. Fords juniors Willie Stroever (8:58.45) and Ronnie Bossert and seniors Stephon Petro, Garth Terry and Jason Dwyer finished 3 4-5-6-7 in the 3,000. Bielecki and juniors Chris Ward, Bennett and Chris Johnstone captured the Distance Medley Relay (10:32.73) by six seconds over Dickinson, which trails the defending champion Fords by a 39-point margin. Johnstone also anchored juniors Eric Koehrsen Dickens Estime and soph Matt Rivenburgh in the Fords' runner-up 4x200-meter relay (1:34.08). 2/16/01 Paul Keogh Invitational at Haverford HAVERFORD -- Sophomore Greg Bielecki (3:57.7) finished two-tenths of a second behind 1,500 meters winner Doug Mascherino of Division II West Chester to highlight men's Haverford performances Friday. Junior captain J.B. Haglund (1:57.1) was third in the 800, while the Fords' 4x400-meter relay (3:28.7) placed second to The College of New Jersey (3:23.8). The Keogh was the final prep meet before the Fords defend their Centennial Conference championship this Friday and Saturday at Alumni Field House. 2/10/01 St. Valentine's Invitational BOSTON -- Juniors Doug Bennett (1:56.36) and Chris Ward (1:58.92) won their respective heats of the men's 800 to highlight Haverford performances at the Boston Armory. Fords captain J.B. Haglund (4:13.28) was ninth overall and first among Division III Mile entries, while sophomore Greg Bielecki (4:20.0) and junior Peter Rook (4:22.5) went 1-2 in their heats of the same event. Senior Jason Dwyer (15:29.07) and junior Willie Stroever (15:30.37) were third and fourth, respectively, among Division III 5,000 competitors, and junior Eric Koehrsen won his section of the 55-meter dash in 6.79 seconds. 2/3/01 Thomson Invitational at Delaware NEWARK, Del. -- Haverford junior J.B. Haglund (8:28.6) won the 3,000 meter run over John Supcic of Towson and three Ford teammates in the top 8 runners at Delaware Field House Saturday. Haverford junior Ronnie Bossert (8:38.9) and seniors Garth Terry (8:50.1) and Jason Dwyer (8:51.9) finished 4-7-8, respectively, behind Haglund, Supcic and three other Division I runners. Fords junior Jim Steinemann (4:21.71) won his heat of the Mile run and was sixth overall, just ahead of ninth-place Peter Rook (4:24.16) and 11th-place Greg Bielecki (4:24.57). Haverford's 4x400-meter relay (3:32.78) finished fourth among Division III entries, just two-hundredths of a second behind defending Pop Haddleton Relay champion Widener (3:32.76). 1/27/01 Widener Invitational CHESTER -- Juniors Jim Steinemann (1:58.9) and Ronnie Bossert (4:04.2) won the 800 and 1,500, respectively, to lead Haverford performances Saturday at Widener. Sophomore Matt Rivenburgh (24.1 in the 200 dash) was the Fords other top three placewinner. 1/26/01 National Open at Penn State STATE COLLEGE -- Haverford juniors Chris Johnstone, Peter Rook, Matt Duques and J.B. Haglund cut almost six seconds of the school's indoor Distance Medley Relay record to automatically qualify for the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships, March 9-10, at Wisconsin-Oshkosh. The Fords (10:04.36) finished eighth in the fast heat of the DMR along with winner Georgetown (9:50.70), fourth-place Villanova (9:57.88), ninth-place LaSalle (10:08.15) and St. Joseph's (10:13.51). Johnstone, Duques and Haglund teamed with classmate Chris Ward in March to place fifth (10:10.25) and earn All-American recognition at last year's Division III nationals. 1/21/00 Haverford Open HAVERFORD -- Junior J.B. Haglund (3:52.3) finished second to Villanova's Ryan Haden (3:49.1) in the 1,500 meters Sunday to automatically qualify for 2001 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field championships, March 9-10 at Wisconsin-Oshkosh. Haglund's time was the best thus far in Division III this year. His classmate, Chris Johnstone (3:58.0) was just four-tenths off the provisional 1,500 time in fifth place. Fellow juniors Peter Rook (1:57.1) and Chris Ward (2:01.5) finished 2-4 in the 800, while soph Greg Bielecki (8:47.1) was fourth overall and first among Division III entries in the 3,000. Fords first-year pole vaulter Jeff Barton cleared 11 feet-6 inches to place fourth in his specialty. 1/13/01 John Covert Classic at Lehigh SOUTH BETHLEHEM -- Senior Garth Terry (16:01.5) won the 5,000 and juniors Chris Johnstone (1:58.74) and Ronnie Bossert (8:59.52) were runners-up in the 800 and 3,000 meters, respectively. Junior J.B. Haglund (4:17.61) placed third in the Mile, while the Fords 4x400-meter (3:30.59) and 4x800-meter (8:00.51) relays each took second as the only Division III entries in the meet.
