An exhibit of landscape photographs taken on the Haverford
campus by Thomas Porett. Mr. Porett lives in Ardmore and is
a Professor, Director of Electronic Media, and Coordinator
of Digital Fine Arts at The University of the Arts in Philadelphia.
He will be in residence during his exhibit giving workshops
on making digital multimedia projects. His residency is being
hosted by William Williams, Curator of Photography at Haverford

Artist Statement: Since 1975 I have walked
the various trails on the campus of Haverford College observing
and photographing details and vistas of this environment.
On any given day there, my interest may be the warm light
of dusk. At other times, the surprising shapes of trees, tangled
stems, or the burst of intensely colored bush. Although these
elements attract initial attention, the process goes further,
to a personalization of the image that moves from what the
object is, to an interpretation into a self-contained image.
I am interested in an image that simultaneously refers to
the landscape, yet engages the visual elements of spatial
complexity and dynamics light modulations.
Brief Biography: Thomas Porett started making
photographs while in elementary school and has continued working
in the medium ever since. He has specialized in extended media,
creating large scale projection pieces and began using computer
based imagery in 1980. Since then he been involved in creating
computer based multimedia pieces that combine photographic
and video imagery along with original sound compositions.
