Haverford Student Selected for a National Award By the Goldman
Sachs Foundation
Haverford College sophomore, Vincent
Indelicato, was among 20 U.S. university students who were publicly
recognized for their outstanding academic and leadership achievements
by The Goldman Sachs Foundation through its new initiative,
the Goldman Sachs Global Leaders Program. In keeping with The
Goldman Sachs Foundation's commitment to developing young leaders
for the new century, the Goldman Sachs Global Leaders Program
invests in the preparation of talented students for distinctive
service to society and their future professions.
The Institute of International Education (IIE), in partnership
with educational organizations in selected countries, conducts
an annual competition on 54 of the world's finest college campuses
to identify 100 of the most accomplished second-year students
for the Goldman Sachs Global Leaders Program. During a public
ceremony in New York in mid-April, the Foundation awarded 20
of these exceptionally talented and bright students from U.S.
schools with the distinction of being "Goldman Sachs Global
Leaders" and an award of $2,000.
Vincent also was one of only ten U.S. students and 40 other
students selected internationally for "top honors."
These 50 outstanding students will have the opportunity to participate
in the Goldman Sachs Global Leaders Institute in late July in
New York City and will receive an additional $3,000 and a laptop
computer with Internet access.
The Goldman Sachs Global Leaders Institute offers this select
group of students from around the world an opportunity to examine
collaboratively important issues such as global leadership,
the new world economy, e-commerce and international development.
Challenging and thought-provoking seminars will be led by world-renowned
faculty from leading U.S. business schools and by experienced
senior Goldman Sachs executives. Additional activities for participants
will include cultural events and a tour of New York City, including
sites such as the United Nations and the New York Stock Exchange.
"The Goldman Sachs Global Leaders Program invests in the
preparation of talented students for distinctive service to
society and their future professions and reflects the Foundation's
mission, 'to identify and promote innovation and excellence
in education worldwide,'" says Stephanie Bell-Rose, President,
The Goldman Sachs Foundation. She continues, "The Goldman
Sachs Global Leaders Program will leave a lasting, positive
impact on young people around the world at an important time
of their lives."
