Democracy and the Dollar:
The Role of Money in Elections
By Steve Manning '96
|
With campaign spending reaching record levels, the tactics that candidates use to raise money are coming under increasing scrutiny. The high cost of running for elected office has encouraged fund-raising practices that test the limits and exploit the holes of current campaign finance laws, statutes that have not been the subject of comprehensive review in over 25 years. Haverford alumni who have run for office, lobby Congress, and teach about campaign finance relate their own experiences and comment on the role of money in American elections and the future of reform movements. |
