This page is intended for collaborating faculty and students in the CyberStudy to provide access to the forms used to submit data, to allow one-click access to the raw data collected, and to facilitate easy upload of the data to Excel or a statistics package. Please address any problems or concerns to Prof. Douglas Davis (ddavis@haverford.edu).

The Survey. The current draft survey (in English) is at this URL: www.haverford.edu/psych/ddavis/webforms/ma.cyber.02.q1.html
and may be loaded by clicking here. A French (and perhaps Arabic) version will be added later.

A Print Version. Since some students may be recruited to complete the survey in class, I've prepared a version with identical questions for printing. A research assistant can load this survey at www.haverford.edu/psych/ddavis/webforms/ma.paper.02.q1.html or by clicking here, print as many copies as needed (the background is white to save ink), and then load the web version to enter data from the print copies. These data will be saved on the Gather server as "ma.paper.02.q1," and they will be merged with data from the on-line form ("ma.cyber.02.q1").

Data Access. To view the raw data on the Haverford Gather server, click here. (12/19/02: so far, only a sample set of responses by me and Prof. Hakim are registered. Feel free to try submitting some data to be sure the form works, and enter "test" in the first open-ended text field so I'll know to delete the data as soon as real responses start to come in.) To load the data in spreadsheet format click here and use the web browser's "File, Save As" menu and select "Microsoft Excel Workbook" as the file type from the pull-down menu. Excel can then be used to chart and statistically represent the data. (I will be preparing detailed instructions on how to do this with a sample data file when I return to the US and get back to work on my laboratory course webpage. I will update this page with links to the latest forms and to summaries of the results.)

The Gather Tool. The Haverford College data-gathering tool is fully described, with sample forms for collecting data, at www2.haverford.edu/acc/webdev/gather/datacollection.html (click here).

There will of course be a number of changes to this form as we all discuss it via email and prepare a version for translation to French. I can also add a second form that allows the cybercafe client to volunteer to participate in further studies (such as collection of sample chat logs) without revealing their identity.
