We now know from the complete Fliess correspondence (Masson, 1985)
that the "Irma" dream was not the one originally
intended to illustrate the method. Freud analyzed another "big
dream," sent the analysis to Fliess, and was persuaded by
him not to include it,
because it was either too revealing of Freud's personal feelings
toward his pregnant wife Martha or of his frustrated ambitions.
