Discussion Questions-- Week 14a (December 1)

1) Is attachment style related to being rejected in a relationship or being the initiator of the rejection?

2) Do individual differences other than attachment style predict the coping mechanisms employed after a breakup? Do individual differences influence the amount of positive and/or negative changes reported after breakup?

3) Do you think there is pressure for individuals in opposite-sex friendships to become more than friends? If so, where does this pressure come from?

4) What predicts the occurrence of a post-dissolutional relationship (PDR)? Is there something specific about the couple or the individuals that influences the likelihood that they will remain friends after breakup?

5) Do PDRs make sense from the major theoretical perspectives? (Investment Model, attachment theory, evolutionary theory, etc.)

6) How do you think an individuals' previous breakup experience influences their coping mechanisms, stress-related growth, amount of time they wait to break up, and amount of time they wait to enter a new relationship?

7) What role do you think sex differences play in breakup?

8) Will the findings in the articles we have assigned generalize to individuals in same-sex relationships?
