Middle States Report

The Middle States Commission on Higher Education is the body that grants accredited status to colleges and universities in our region. Institutions are re-accredited every 10 years, through a process of self-study followed by a site visit. 2008-2009 is Haverford College's self-study year. The final self-study document will be submitted to Middle States in Winter 2010, in anticipation of a Spring 2010 site visit.
Through this process, Haverford must demonstrate compliance with 14 accreditation standards which are the core competencies that Middle States requires of every institution. These standards will guide the work of the self-study, but we will also use the self-study process to help the College evaluate its short and long-term strategic goals. In the Self-study Design submitted to Middle States, the 14 accreditation standards have been organized into four core themes that make sense to Haverford as an institution. They are: "Institutional Vision", "Core Academic Mission" (which has two sub-themes: "Student Life" and "Faculty/Curriculum"), "Assessment" and "Governance, Policies and Procedures". Working Groups have been assigned to address each of these areas. As this process moves forward, the working groups will be in contact with all Haverford constituencies for input. We hope that the entire community benefits from our analysis and the planning that emerges from this process.
For additional information regarding the Middle States process, please see the Documents section which includes the Self-study Design and a timetable of upcoming activities, among other details. If you have any questions, please contact us at hc-selfstudy@haverford.edu.
