Training in physics constitutes broad preparation for a variety of
career options. Before he left his professorship to seek political
office Representative Vernon Ehlers, the only Ph.D. physicist in the
U.S. Congress, was fond of saying that physicists are omnicompetent.
That might be putting it a little too strongly, but the diversity of
