Women in Science
Women in Science (WIS) is an organization whose goal is to bring together
female science majors and encourage more women to enroll in math and
science classes. WIS runs a peer mentoring program for freshman girls who are interested in taking math or science courses. Freshmen students are matched with female majors who answer any questions about classes and help integrate the freshmen into the departmental communities.
WIS also runs weekly intro programming classes at night. The classes are meant to excite students about computer science and teach useful skills like creating and editing websites. No experience is necessary. This coming year the classes will be co-taught by Lili Dworkin and Erica Greene. Dates and times will be posted soon after school starts.
This coming year marks the official opening of the Women in Science lounge, located just outside of Zuburow in S202. The lounge will be open 24/7 but specific hours will be posted when WIS students will be guaranteed to be there. Please stop in for free coffee and snacks.
For more information about the Women in Science organization please contact Erica Greene (egreene@haverford.edu) or Anna Pancoast (apancoas@haverford.edu). If you are interested in the programming classes, please contact Lili Dworkin (ldworkin@haverford.edu).
