International Students Association (ISA)
ISA aims to provide a support system for international students at Haverford College, and helps ease their transition to life at Haverford and in the US. We also plan the International Students' Orientation along with the Office of Multicultural Affairs. For the current international students at Haverford, ISA organizes regular outings in the form of educational and cultural trips into the historic city of Philadelphia and neighboring areas. ISA also acts as a resource for prospective international students and those who have gained admission to Haverford College, answering their questions and addressing their concerns and needs. Meetings are held on alternate weeks and all are welcome. We wholeheartedly invite all people who are interested in international issues and wish to spend time with international students in an informal setting to come join us.
In today’s globalized world, mutual understanding among different cultures has become much more crucial than ever before. The International Student Association (ISA) is the largest and most diverse affinity group at Haverford with 10 dedicated executive staffs and 80 members from 23 countries. Thus, with its affluent human resources, ISA is well-prepared to play a significant role in improving the International awareness on campus and diversifying the campus cultural activities. ISA’s philosophy of promoting awareness and understanding of the international culture is via a 360 degrees cultural immersion experience that includes food, performances, discussions, and art workshops.
Last year, ISA hosted the "Culture Week" with the Black Students League (BSL) and other affinity groups, held cross-cultural discussions as part of the Magill Library's International Program, organized the International Karaoke Night and facilitate the International student documentary project with the Office of International Student Service. ISA also assists the international students in their challenging transition to life in the U.S. and allows them to gain a better understanding of the U.S. culture outside of Haverford by organizing trips during the break to New York City and Washington, D.C. Over the next year, we hope to engage in community service with the local community in Philadelphia.
We also warmly welcome everyone regardless of nationality to join us. Joining the ISA is a great opportunity for anyone who wishes to get a global perspective and find out about the interesting cultures from all around the world. Join us today!:)
