Assistive Technology

for Visual Disabilities

There are various types of assistive technology available for people suffering from visual disabilities. For computer use, screen magnifiers and screen readers are of great use, and voice recognition technology can be helpful as well. Haverford College has two computers set up with assistive technology (screen readers, voice recognition technology, and headsets): one in the Magill Library microfiche room and the other in the computer lab in Hilles, H204. A demonstration of our Speech Recognition equipment is available for viewing here.

Assistive technology is also for aid in the use of printed material. Enlarged print books, books on tape, braille books, and others can also be made available for students with visual disabilities. See the links page for links to sites containing additional information.
