Marc Korobkin '15 is an Economics major from Portland, Maine, who has always envisioned a career in economics and consulting. When searching for a school, he looked for a reputable liberal arts college that embodied integrity, honor, and academic decorum.

Mathematics and Economics sparked Marc's interest from the start. As he gained an in-depth knowledge of course curricula, Marc soon realized that he enjoyed the real-world application of economics the greatest.

Internships and work experiences have helped shape how Marc views the world today. During Marc's time at the Copley-Lareine Motel, he managed employees on the front-line and ground level, gaining a greater understanding of team unity and leadership.

The following summer, he used his analytical skills at the Center for Workforce Research in Maine. There, he analyzed a state-funded skills training program, determining how to best utilize the state's economic resources to help train underprivileged residents for in-demand career paths.

This past summer, Marc was employed by the Philadelphia based organization, Econsult Solutions. Marc worked on a variety of economic consulting projects, ranging from short-term advisory support to long-term planning. This included Philadelphia's waterfront revitalization as well as the economic impact of casinos in Atlantic City.

Marc's thesis will take an in-depth look at economic growth in resource-rich regions of the United States. Through his research, Marc explores why resource–rich regions often experience lower levels of economic prosperity, a term coined the“resource curse.” Marc's thesis will look at whether a“resource curse” is present in the eastern United States and examine why resource extraction might lead to lower long-run growth.

With a major in Economics and a Minor in Mathematics, Marc has accepted a post-graduation job with Moody's Analytics, located in West Chester, PA. He has been hired to perform economic analysis as well as forecasting and consulting.

Marc has served as a Teaching Assistant for the economics department and has the chaired the Foreign Exchange and Commodities Club.
