Holden Blanco HC 17, Heidi Gay BMC 15,Nathaniel Rehm-Daly HC 16, completedArts 251A- Photography Materials and Techniquesduring the fall semester. Each student developed a personal body of work in black and white photography through an intensive immersion of learning how to use photographic materials and techniques in an expressive and artistic way. The practical and theoretical aspects of digital and analog photography were studied in tandem to achieve this end.
Each exhibitor selected 8 prints to install from their portfolio for framing and installation in the Alcove Gallery for a public presentation of the work. The class included extensive readings in the literature of photography, as well as research into individual photographers, and the study of criticism and theory. Materials and Techniques is a two-semester course with black and white offered in the fall and color offered during the spring semester.
