Student posters show research results

Haverford's 23 senior chemistry majors showed off their research results at the annual chemistry poster session held in the KINSC the afternoon of Friday April 4.
Senior chemistry majors have been hard at work in the research labs since last September working on research projects. Topics included synthesis and characterization of new inorganic coordination complexes and materials with novel properties, progress on synthetic pathways to natural products with potential pharmaceutical use, explorations of protein folding using laser spectroscopy, development of a multiweek laboratory exercise for chemical education, and construction of an on-line reaction database. Each student constructed a 42" square poster summarizing her or his research project and results. At the poster session each student stood by his or her poster for an hour to answer questions, and then was able to browse the other posters during the other hour. Pizza and other refreshments helped to attract a large audience of students interested in chemistry.
