Biological Laboratory Assistant

Responsibilities

· Use and maintenance of autoclaves and dishwashing equipment to support teaching and research labs

· Media preparation for all labs (including support for bacterial, animal, and plant work)

· Preparation of common solutions for teaching labs (buffers, salts)

· Assist with lab set ups for teaching laboratories (ordering equipment and reagents)

· Maintenance (organization and clean up) of teaching labs and other common lab spaces

· Assist with proper waste disposal (including both biochemical and bio hazardous waste)

· Coordinate related activities with our instrument specialists and purchasing agents

Qualifications

· Bachelor’s degree in the sciences preferred although a high school degree in the sciences with 3-5 years of relevant experience may be competitive

· General aptitude for and expertise with scientific equipment

· Willingness/eagerness to learn and continue training as appropriate

· Experience and interest in working with students

· Desire to be part of a teaching enterprise.

· The ability to assist in our departmental curriculum and research programs of the faculty, as needed.
