To the Haverford Community:
As you know from our previous reports, the presidential search has been moving forward with deliberate speed, care and intensity. Our search committee, with the support of our search consultant, has been identifying and engaging potential candidates, conducting interviews and reference checks, and gathering general search-related information for the past several months. We are pleased to report that the search continues to proceed extraordinarily well.
The committee received more than 300 nominations, applications and prospects. Following interviews with more than a dozen semifinalists, the committee has begun to narrow the pool further. The remaining candidates represent a diverse and experienced group of men and women, including people of color, Quakers, and alumni. They are current and former presidents, provosts, and deans from small liberal arts colleges, Ivy League universities, and other prominent research universities (both public and private).
Throughout the search process, the College has pledged to protect the identity of candidates. Given our candidates’ important job responsibilities elsewhere, we are obligated to maintain that commitment through the final stage of the search and even after the board’s final selection is announced.
Haverford’s academic reputation, core values, and distinctive culture continue to capture the imaginations of capable, experienced and committed leaders in higher education. Each of our remaining candidates is an exciting prospective president of Haverford. Our subsequent deliberations will determine which candidate is best for Haverford given the College's priorities going forward and the desired attributes for our 14th President as described in the Search Prospectus. If you have not done so, we hope you will review the Prospectus, which speaks so powerfully about who we are as an institution and what we hope to be in the future.
The search committee looks forward to reporting to the board in due course, and we thank you for your ongoing support.
Very truly yours,
Jon and Garry
