Haverford and Arcadia play to an 8-all tie
3/4/08 - The Fords score seven runs in the fifth inning.
HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College baseball team opened its 2008 home schedule with an 8-8 tie with Arcadia University Tuesday afternoon. The game was called after the eighth inning due to darkness.
Louis DeRosa, Drew Wilcox, Charlie Carluccio and Chris Dooley all had two hits for the Fords. DeRosa also scored two runs.
John Curreri went 3-for-4 with two runs scored for Arcadia. Kevin Kolodgie had three RBI for the Knights while Rich Greenfield had two.
Stefan Pappius-Lefeb started the game for Hverford, going 3.2 innings. He gave up seven runs and struck out five. Ben Regan pitched 4.1 innings allowing two hits and one run.
Tim Smith started the game for Arcadia, pitching 4.0 innings and allowing two hits. Dan Manning faced three batters in the fifth inning before Mike Greeley came in relief. Manning allowed three hits and three runs. Greeley went the remaining 4.0 innings, striking out two and walking five.
Arcadia was off to a fast start on the afternoon, scoring four of its runs in the first inning. The Knights scored an additional run in each of the next four innings.
The Fords bats came a live in the bottom of the fifth inning as Haverford exploded for seven runs. Dooley started the inning with a double. Dean Laganosky followed with a triple to score Dooley and put Haverford on the board. The Fords put together seven hits for the seven runs and make the score 8-7 Arcadia.
In the bottom of the eighth, Carluccio knocked in DeRosa with a double to tie the score at 8-all. The game was then called.
The Fords complete their three-games-in-three-days tomorrow when they host Richard Stockton. The first pitch is set for 3 p.m.
