Cacioppo's recent work to premiere at Curtis Institute
Ruth Marshall Magill Professor of Music Curt Cacioppo’s recent work “Kinaaldá: the Rite of Changing Woman” will receive its East Coast premiere Sunday, December 18 at 3PM at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. The concert, featuring the Borromeo String Quartet, takes place as part of the Philadelphia Chamber Music Society (PCMS) series. A pre-concert forum begins at 1:45.
Written for the Borromeo Quartet, “Kinaaldá” completes Cacioppo’s four-quartet cycle WOMB OF THE SACRED MOUNTAINS inspired by episodes from the Navajo creation story. Composed of a fantasy and an extended set of variations, “Kinaaldá” traces the passage into womanhood of the principal Navajo deity Asdzą́ą́ Nádleehé, or Changing Woman, who returns eternally like the seasons, renewing and creating new life.
