Large Scholarly Book Collection Debuts in Tripod

The Bryn Mawr, Haverford, and Swarthmore College Libraries have significantly expanded their collection of academic e-books through the addition of more than 40,000 titles issued since 2006 by Cambridge University Press, the University of Chicago Press, Princeton University Press, Palgrave, and many other scholarly publishers. The books are available in Tripod, and new books will be added each week as publishers issue them.

The arrangement with library book vendor Ebook Library (EBL) allows students and faculty immediate access to books in this collection; to download entire books for reading on laptops, iPads, and a variety of mobile devices for a loan period of 1, 7 or 14 days; to print or copy limited portions of books; and to take reading notes that are preserved on the EBL site.

In contrast to other electronic book collections in Tripod, EBL does not charge for the entire set of books provided, but rather only the books that are borrowed. If you think a book from EBL should be owned by the library, either in print or as an e-book, simply contact your bibliographer or submit a request to library@haverford.edu.

“We are delighted to engage in this Tri-College pilot project in which access to a much larger spectrum of book titles is now possible. We expect to learn a great deal about demand for print versus electronic resources. We also look forward to understanding how scholarship at Haverford is impacted by the availability of these electronic books.” Terry Snyder, Librarian of the College.
