Dear Member of the Class of 2015:

We invite you to apply to attend the Fall Break “Dimensions of Diversity” program. This year’s program will take place October 7-11, 2011 at Bryn Mawr College.

The “Dimensions of Diversity” program is for first-year students from the Tri-College community who are interested in exploring issues of diversity—especially race, gender, ethnicity, sexuality and religion—as experienced at each institution, in the United States, and in the world. “Dimensions of Diversity” is designed to help students enhance both their leadership skills and their social awareness to become agents for change. To this end, workshops, panels and discussions focused on the above-mentioned topics will be offered. Through this training, students will enter a process of development and change as they learn about, accept, include, and eventually build alliances among diverse individuals and communities.

We believe that (1) self-understanding of individual identity issues and cross-cultural awareness; (2) increased sensitivity to the complexity of other racial/ethnic groups and one’s own; and (3) strong skills in communication and leadership contribute to the students’ development of authentic cross-cultural relationships and positive college experience. “Dimensions of Diversity” is one of many programs that enable us to more effectively exist as a vibrant and diverse community.

Please note that no fees are involved: tuition, room and board for “Dimensions of Diversity” are paid by the participating colleges. Participants are only under the obligation to attend all programs and to complete all assignments in good order.

During the program, you will be transported to Bryn Mawr College each morning and will return to your home institution following dinner each evening.

Below you will find a web address for the Fall Break “Dimensions of Diversity” program and application. Spaces are limited, since each college has been allotted fifteen (15) students. If you plan to attend, you must complete the application as soon as possible, but no later than Monday, September 12th.
