Introducing...the OMA Passport for First-Year Students!

The Office of Multicultural Affairs is inaugurating The OMA Passport for the class of 2015.

Throughout the fall semester, the OMA will be co-sponsoring events, from poetry readings to public lectures to Philadelphia excursions to introduce you to the many different cultures of the Haverford community and of the many different communities through which students move.

Upcoming OMA passport events include:

  • the Philadelphia Fringe Festival (free admission for your customs group will be underwritten by the Humanities Center, which is an OMA partner)
  • a workshop on student activism led by Haverford House fellow Caila Heyison
  • a gallery talk by artist/HC professor Markus Baenziger who uses technological debris as the basis for his sculptures
  • a lesson from MJ Franklin, ’12, on dance moves like the Hustle, the lock, and the Bus Stop in preparation for a 70s funk dance party during Multicultural Students Weekend/Family and Friends weekend

How do I get an OMA passport? You can make your own at the OMA Open House on Tuesday, August 30, at 6:30 (bring with you any paper you need to recycle); afterwards, passports will be available at the OMA

What do I do with it? You go to the extremely cool OMA Passport events, and get your passport stamped.

And then what? If you feel moved to write about your experience, submit your reflections to oma@haverford.edu; your entry may appear in the OMA Blog. Each time you contribute, you are entered into a drawing for a dinner for your entire Customs Group in Philly at the end of the semester!
