Ursinus too much for Haverford to Handle

Haverford will complete the season at Swarthmore on Saturday.
2/20/08 - Slow start gives Ursinus the edge over Haverford.
COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The first half deficit was too much to overcome as Ursinus College defeated Haverford College, 80-41, Wednesday night in Centennial Conference action at Helfferich Hall.
Ursinus had three players score in double-figures. Sarah Hennessey and Alex Shivers each netted 17 points while Carolyn Konstanzer scored 16 points. The Fords were led by Brittany Lattisaw and Alejandra Alvarez, each scored nine points. Lattisaw also pulled in 10 rebounds.
Haverford (3-20, 0-17 CC) was held scoreless in the first six and a half minutes of the game. Lattisaw hit one-of-two from the line to put the Fords on the board. During that time, Ursinus (12-12, 10-7 CC) scored 19 points to take a commanding lead. The Fords did not score a field goal until the 12:44 mark to make the score 19-3.
Alvarez hit a three-pointer with two and a half left to give the Fords 11 points, but the Bears kept the heat on and built their lead to 45-13 at the break.
The Fords came out in the second half with a bang. They outscored the Bears 16-12 over the first seven minutes. Haverford shot 48.3 percent from the field in the second half, but the deficit from the first half was too much to overcome.
The Fords will wrap up their season on Saturday when they travel to Swarthmore. The women will tip-off at 2 p.m. followed by the men at 4 p.m.
